These terms will be extended before store listings and paid billing go live. The limits below apply now and will not soften later.
Aid to navigation
Sail With Dan is an aid to navigation, not a primary means of navigation. It does not replace official charts, an echo sounder, a lookout, or your judgment. It is not ENC or ECDIS data and it does not meet SOLAS chart carriage requirements. Only official government charts and Notices to Mariners contain all the information needed for safe navigation.
Skipper responsibility
You remain responsible for the vessel, the crew, the lookout, and the passage. Routes and forecasts produced by the app are planning aids. You vet every board before you sail it.
Data sources
Chart, seamark, weather, and depth data come from third parties, including OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap, Open-Meteo, and EMODnet. None of it is surveyed for navigation. Coverage, currency, and accuracy are outside our control and can change without notice.
Routing and depth
A route that “stays in water” has been checked against drawn coastline only. It says nothing about depth, shoals, rocks, restricted areas, or traffic. Depth contours are modeled from roughly 115 m cells, are coarsest inshore, are not soundings, and are never used to plan a route.
Position and alarms
Position, speed, course, and the anchor alarm depend on the phone GPS and on the operating system letting the app run. Accuracy degrades at low speed and in poor reception. Battery, permissions, power saving, and background limits can stop an alarm. Do not treat an anchor watch as the only thing standing between the boat and the beach.
Trial and pricing
The trial is seven days of the full app. List prices are $24.99 a year or $69.99 once, in US dollars and before store tax. For 90 days after launch, the lifetime price is $49.99. Billing is not live yet, and no purchase can be completed on this site. When it goes live, purchases and cancellations are handled by the App Store or Google Play under their terms.
No warranty
The app is provided as is, without warranty of fitness for navigation or for any particular passage. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the app or from reliance on the data it displays.
