What the app reads, what leaves the phone, and who to write to.
What the app uses
Sail With Dan uses location while the app is in use, standing an anchor watch, or recording a track, the compass for heading, and network access for maps, wind, waves, and depth data. Location is what makes speed, course, routing, tracks, the catch log, man overboard, the coastal-limit bar, and the anchor alarm work. Without it the app cannot do its job.
What stays on the phone
Recorded tracks, waypoints, anchor marks, catch log, and settings are stored on the device. They are not uploaded. A GPX or KML export leaves the phone only when you share it yourself.
What is sent to third parties
To draw a map or fetch a forecast, the app requests data for the area you are looking at. That means a position or a bounding box is sent to the map, weather, and depth providers named on the home page: MapTiler, OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap, Open-Meteo, and EMODnet. No name, email, or account is attached, because the app has none. On iOS, product analytics also go to Google, as described under App analytics.
App analytics
On iOS the app uses Google Analytics through Firebase (Google LLC). It sends product events: opening the paywall, starting a checkout, starting the yearly trial, and completing a purchase. Price and currency come from the App Store, not from a form on this site. Restored purchases are not logged as conversions. Location, tracks, waypoints, catch log, and settings are not sent on this channel. There is no advertising SDK, no remarketing, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt — the app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Google receives the events; they are not used to show you ads. Builds that shipped before this configuration send nothing. Retention follows Google Analytics defaults until this page says otherwise.
This website
This site has no accounts and no payments. It uses Google Analytics (measurement ID G-5B6BGJE5PX) to count page views. Google LLC receives the request, including IP address, browser, and the page you opened. There is no advertising pixel and no remarketing. Retention follows Google Analytics defaults until this page says otherwise. A help or feedback message from the app collects your name, email, and message, plus the app version and language, only so we can answer you. Resend delivers that mail.
Purchases
Trials, subscriptions, renewals, and cancellations are handled by the App Store under its own terms. Card details never reach the app or this site.
